Achievements
Objective: The main objective of the National Census was to create and provide a national database of the street families population in Kenya. The specific objectives were to establish the magnitude and demographic characteristics of the street families in Kenya; assess the socio-economic and political push and pull factors of street families; generate a databank for street families; and map out existing services, opportunities, and potential challenges for street families.
Impact: The census has informed policy formulation, planning, budgeting, and decision-making on addressing the plight of street families.
Objective: A policy is in place to provide a framework to guide and coordinate rescue, rehabilitation, reintegration, re-socialization, and prevention interventions for street families for effective service delivery.
SFRTF is currently supporting 30 institutions across the Country undertaking the rehabilitation of street families. Since the last National Census on Street Families, conducted in 2018, those rescued account for 27.36%, rehabilitated (provided to both the rescued street persons and their caregiver) 44.33%, reintegrated 31.85%, and conducted capacity building of 659 duty bearers.
SFRTF has established Twenty-Three (23) County Chapters which include; Kisumu, Kakamega, Uasin Gishu, Bomet, Garissa, Nairobi, Nakuru, Nyeri, Meru, Embu, Mombasa, Migori, Siaya, Homabay, Kajiado, Kiambu, Makueni, Taita-Taveta, Baringo, Kitui, Samburu, Laikipia and Muran’ga being the counties with the highest concentration of street families as per the National Census for Street Families of 2018.
